i shot a short film on super 8mm, at 24 frames per second. i was going to project the image on a wall and record with a video camera to get the footage in my computer for editing.
unfortunately, i cant find a projector that runs at 24 fps, only 18.
if i would project my film, which was shot at 24 fps, with the projector running at 18 fps... what effect would i get?
my understanding is that i would see everything 1/4 times slower than normal. would that make a surreal dreamy look for my movie, or would it not work at all?

since the projector is running at 18fps, and the video camera is running at 30fps, you will pick up all the inbetween artifacts. this leads to flicker and variable exposure problems if your video camera only has auto exposure. infact, unless you have a projector with a 5 blade shutter, even at 24fps you will still have these proplems. for best results, it's better to get your film transfer done by someone with equipment or spend the money and by what you need.

i can adjust the shutter speed of my video camera. its the xl1. i was told the xl1 can be adjusted so i wouldnt see the flickering.
my problem is running at film shot at 24 fps at 18 fps. what will this make the footage look like?

Hi,
Projecting it at a lower speed will make the footage slower than real time.
What you might be able to do (i dunno if it's effective) : Project it at 18fps and video tape it, and modify the speed through the computer with an editing program.
If that doesn't work, keep on looking for a projector with 24fps, you're bound to find one lying around somewhere.
I was just wondering. I also live in Canada, and was wondering where you get your film processed.
Well, good luck
